Acceptance of the Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) reduces the renters and authorized additional drivers financial responsibility to $300.00 CAD or $500.00 CAD, dependent upon the vehicle group rented, if the car is damaged or stolen while under rental contract. . Using the vehicle in violation of any of the use restrictions listed on the rental agreement could void LDW and leave the renter fully responsible for any damage to the vehicle.

If LDW is not accepted, the customer is financially responsible for the full value of:

• Accident damage
• Glass damage
• Vandalism
• Theft of the car
• Stolen items such as radio, battery, etc.

All Avis cars are not to be driven on unpaved roads (like gravel, dirt, etc.)

Global insurance coverages are always subject to change. Please verify at time of rental.

Avis accepts most major credit cards as credit identification at the time of rental.

Accepted credit card list: Avis Charge Card, American Express, AT&T Capital, Diner's Club, Diner's Club Int'l, Discover, JCB, MasterCard and Visa.

Some locations may not accept each of the referenced cards.

The exact amount of Credit Card authorization will vary by the rate, car group, length of rental, and miscellaneous charges.  Please contact the rental counter for an estimate of the authorization amount.

Debit cards are not accepted at time of rental as credit identification, however, they can be used at time of return to pay for the rental. You must have a honored charge card to qualify for rental. .

At the time of rental, the driver must present a valid drivers license in the drivers name.
Canada licenses required by issuing province to rent a vehicle are:  Manitoba requires Class 5 Full (F), New Brunswick requires Class 7 (level 2 only) and Class 5, Ontario requires Class G & G2 and all other provinces require Class 5.

Customers presenting a drivers license in a non-Roman alphabet must also present an International Driving Permit (IDP) in addition to their valid drivers license.

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) and PAI-Plus are optional coverages the customer may purchase at the time of rental.

Personal Accident Insurance provides accidental death and medical expense benefits to the renter and all passengers in the Avis car.

Personal Accident Insurance Plus offers an Accidental Death and Dismemberment benefit.

PAI Plus offers an Accidental Death and Dismemberment Benefit of CAD 100,000 per accident for the renter and all passengers in the Avis vehicle.

Coverage for paralysis is CAD 100,000 for the renter and CAD 10,000 for each passenger.

PAI Plus also includes coverage for:

• Emergency transportation
• Emergency accomodations
• Road Hazard Service
• Towing
• Legal Defense
• Lost keys/remote
• Funeral Expenses

PAI Plus benefits described are payable in addition to any other insurance benefits.

GST applies on PAI Plus in all provinces.

Public liability insurance is in accordance with the insurance laws of the country.  Customer may inquire at the time of rental for additional information of the benefits, conditions and acceptance.

Note: Some credit cards provide insurance coverage, with certain limitations, as a benefit of using the card to rent vehicles.  The customer is advised to contact the card issuer before the rental.  Any waiver must be discussed directly with the location upon arrival.

Winter Tires are mandatory on certain roads or the renter/driver may be ticketed by RCMP.

QUEBEC -
It is mandatory that all vehicles registered in the province of Quebec be equipped with winter tires during the winter months of December through March. All rentals will be charged a daily Tire Management Fee up to 4.50 CAD per day for year-round tire maintenance.  The fee is subject to concession recovery fees, GST and QST.

ALL OTHER PROVINCES -
Winter tire equipped vehicles maybe available in the winter season for reservations at some locations. An additional fee up to 20.00 CAD per day will apply.  Fees vary by location and car group.

A customer renting a Luxury Car, Minivan, Full-Size Pickup, Full-Size SUV, Premium SUV, Standard SUV or any vehicle in the Specialty/Signature Series/Cool Car categories must be at least 25 years old.

• Exception: A customer with an acceptable corporate discount number can rent the above car classes at 21 years old without an underage fee.

For all other car classes, a customer presenting a major charge card must be at least 21 years old. An underage surcharge of $25.00 CAD per day will apply for renters 21-24 years old.

• Exception: A customer presenting a major charge card with an acceptable corporate discount number can rent at 21 years old without an underage fee. .

A customer presenting an Avis charge card, government-issued Visa/MasterCard or government travel/purchase orders can rent any car class at age 21 without an underage fee.

Snow Tires are mandatory for rentals within the Province of Quebec, CA, during the Winter Season.  There will be a daily charge up to a maximum $3.99 CAD per day, applied to the rental.  Snow Tires may also be available within other locations in Canada, with a fee of $10.00 CAD per day charge.

Approximate total includes base rate, taxes, and surcharges. Items such as coupon discounts, child safety seats and gas are NOT included in the estimated total. Optional coverages and one-way fees are subject to tax in certain locations. This tax is not reflected in the Estimated Total.

Estimated total is subject to change based upon exchange rates at the time of rental.

The vehicle must be returned with a full tank of gas or there will be a charge for refueling.

Most locations offer a prepaid gas option which you can accept at the rental location.

If the vehicle is driven less than 125 kilometers there may be an additional refueling fee, unless a gas receipt is presented at time of return. The customer can check at the time of rental for complete details.

Due to winter conditions between November 15 and March 15 the entire Avis fleet in Germany is equipped with winter tires. The fee for winter tires is included in the total price.

How old do I need to be to drive a rental vehicle?

To drive our vehicles, you and all of your drivers need to be at least 19 years old and have held a full, valid driving licence for at least 1/2 year at the start of your rental. Renters under 21 can only rent car group A. Renters 21 and up can rent all car groups except for car groups F, J and all Porsche vehicles, the renter must be 25. .

I'm under 25; do I need to pay a young driver surcharge?

If you or any of your drivers are under 25 when you pick up the vehicle, you will each have to pay a young driver surcharge. The cost for this will depend on where you are picking the vehicle up from but you can expect it to be between 11,90 EUR and 14,64 EUR per day, for each driver.
If you rent the vehicle for more than 10 days, you will only be charged for a maximum of 10 days and get cover for the duration of your rental, up to 31 days.

Are there any maximum age restrictions?

No, so long as you hold a full, valid driving licence for at least 1/2 year.

Should I bring the vehicle back with a full tank of fuel?
Yes. The vehicle will normally be supplied with a full tank of fuel. You must return it to us with the same amount of fuel it had in it when you picked it up usually a full tank as shown on the factory-installed fuel gauge. We recommend you fill up as close to the return location as you can on the return date, and keep the receipt to show us. If you do not return the vehicle with a full tank and you can not show us a receipt for fuel we will charge you.

Fuel Options

I plan to travel more than 120 kilometres, and want peace of mind, do you have a fuel option for me?
Yes, with Fuel Up Front you pay for a full tank of fuel, based on the manufacturer's stated fuel tank capacity for your vehicle plus our costs of refuelling the vehicle for you. Then you just return the vehicle with whatever's left in the tank (even if it's virtually empty) so long as the engine still runs.
How do I calculate the cost of Fuel Up Front?
Depending on where you’re renting, we charge the average fuel price at the start of your rental period as stated on this EU fuel index: However, you don't get a refund for any fuel you don't use.
Can I get Fuel up Front at any time?
No, if you want to take advantage of Fuel Up Front, you must ask for it during the booking process or when you pick up the vehicle.
I plan to travel less than 120 kilometres, do I still need to fill up?
Yes, often the fuel gauges stills look full so we ask you to fill up the tank near to the return location and show us a copy of the receipt. If you don’t have time to fill up the tank, or can’t show us a receipt, we will apply EZ Fuel to cover our costs of refuelling the vehicle for you.
How much is EZ Fuel?
Depending on where you’re renting, you pay of fixed fee of between 26.00 EUR and 32.90 EUR. You retain the right to prove, that no loss or damage has occurred or that the loss or damage occurred is considerably lower than the EZ Fuel Fee.
What are my options if I don’t return the vehicle full and haven’t bought Fuel up Front?
Pay on Return will apply if you have driven more than 120 kilometres and:

• Don't buy Fuel Up Front
• Don't return the vehicle with a full tank

How do I calculate the cost of Pay on Return?
You pay for fuel based on the factory-installed fuel gauge rounded down to the nearest eighth (1/8) of a tank. This is based on the manufacturer's stated fuel tank capacity.
We charge between 1.5 and three times the average fuel price at the end of the rental period for the Germany as stated on this EU fuel index.. The price per litre will be stated on your rental agreement. This charge covers our cost of driving to the nearest petrol station at short notice, and potentially delaying the next customer's rental.

Electric Vehicles

How much battery charge should I return an electric vehicle with?

You must return the vehicle with at least a 70% battery charge, or the same % battery charge as it had at the time of pick-up.

What am i charged if I fail to return an electric vehicle with the required 70% battery charge, or the same % battery charge as it had at the time of pick-up?

We charge a fixed amount dependent on the battery life showing on the factory-installed battery gauge. This is the Pay on Return rate. the amounts charged are set out below:

Can I pick up the vehicle from one rental location and return it to another?
Yes, some rental locations let you collect the vehicle and any optional extras from one rental location and return them to another.
How much is the One-Way fee?
The price depends on the rental location. If you want to pick up the vehicle and return it to a different location in the same country, you can expect it to be between 15 EUR and 33,21 EUR. If you want to pick up the vehicle in one country and drop it off in another country, you can expect it to be between 100 EUR and 4.500 EUR.
How do I get a One-Way rental?
You can request a one-way rental when you book or you can ask for it when you get to the rental location.
If you asked for a one-way rental when you booked, the fee will be included in your rental price.
How much will it cost if I did not request a One-Way rental but return the vehicle to a different location?
You will be charged a one-way fee at the pay at location prices available on the day you return the vehicle.

Customers with disabilities

I have a disability, do you offer adapted vehicles?
Yes, specially adapted vehicles are available at some of our rental locations. Please call the Reservations team for more information.
I have a disability, do you offer hand controls?
No, regrettably, we do not currently offer hand controls or panoramic mirrors at this time.

Popular optional extras to rent

I have small children, do you offer child seats?
Yes, we offer baby, infant, and child seats. A baby seat is typically suitable for a child from birth to 12 months old and weighing no more than 13 kilos. An infant seat is typically suitable for a child aged 9 months to 4 years old and weighing between 9 and 18 kilos. A child seat is typically suitable for a child aged 4 to 12 years old and weighing between 15 and 36 kilos.
In some rental locations, we may arrange for a third party to fit the seat for you. But remember, it is always your responsibility to check the seat is fitted correctly before you drive away.
Please note: In the Germany, all children must normally use a child car seat until they are 12 years old or 150 cm tall.
How much are your child seats?
The fee for renting a seat will depend on where you're renting but you can expect it to cost between EUR 13.00 and EUR 16.31 a day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 6 days, you'll only be charged for a maximum EUR 86.59 and get to use the seat for the duration of your rental, up to 28 days.
If the seat is damaged, lost or stolen, and if you are responsible for that, you will have to pay for a replacement. The costs of this are based on the replacement value and based on experience, range between EUR 80.00 and EUR 200.00 plus the rental costs.
I am not familiar with the area; can I rent a GPS (satellite navigation system)?
Yes, the fee for renting a GPS will depend on where you're renting but you can expect it to cost between EUR 11.00 and EUR 13.80 a day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 14 days, you will only be charged for a maximum of 14 days and get to use the GPS for the duration of your rental, up to 28 days.

If the GPS is damaged, lost or stolen, and if you are responsible for that, you will have to pay for a replacement. The costs of this are based on the replacement value and based on experience, range between 209.00 EUR and 260.00 EUR plus the rental costs.
Please note: In some countries, it is against the law to use a GPS that tells you where speed cameras are. It is illegal in Germany. If you rent a GPS from us, it won't give you speed camera information.
Do you offer an audio tour guide service on your GPS?
Yes, it is available with the Travel Companion Full Version at selected stations.
I want to be able to access the internet anywhere I go, do you offer a solution?
Yes, we offer Travel Companion Full Version at selected stations. Here you can connect to 5 devices with unlimited data usage and unlimited international calls. We provide this service on behalf of a third party so you will need to read and agree to separate terms and conditions with them. This terms and conditions have to be signed by yourself on the device at time of rental.
Please note: In many countries, including the Germany, it is illegal to drive while using a handheld mobile phone, tablet or other communications device. It is your responsibility to drive safely and according to the laws of the country you are driving in.
How much does Travel Companion Full version cost?
The fee for hiring Travel Companion Full version will depend on where you're renting but you can expect it to be between EUR 13.80 and EUR 16.80 a day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 14 days, you'll only be charged for a maximum of 14 days and get to use the Travel Companion Full Version (TCT) for the duration of your rental, up to 28 days.
If the mobile Travel Companion device is damaged, lost or stolen, and if you are responsible for that, you will have to pay for a replacement. The costs of this are based on the replacement value and based on experience, amount to EUR 260.00 plus the rental costs.
If any mobile accessories are damaged, lost or stolen, and if you are responsible for that, you will have to pay for a replacement. The costs of this are expected to range between EUR 10.00 and EUR 150.00 plus the rental costs.
I am intending to drive along toll roads; do you offer a device to make this quicker and easier for me?
No, unfortunately we do not offer any electronic toll charging devices at this time.

Winter equipment to rent

I am concerned about the road conditions, do you offer all-weather tyres?
Yes, if the rental location you are hiring from is in an area where it’s illegal to drive without all-weather tyres at certain times of year, the vehicle will automatically be supplied with them and the fee will be included in your rental fee or contract.
We can also supply all-weather tyres for a fee. This will depend on where you’re renting but you can expect it to be between 15 EUR and 18,70 EUR a day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 10 days, you will only be charged for a maximum of 10 days and get to use the all-weather tyres for the duration of your rental, up to 28 days.

During winter season (15 November to 15 March), our rental vehicles in germany are equipped with winter tyres. The fee for this is already included in the rental price (deviations possible for business customers).
If any all-weather tyre is damaged, lost or stolen, and if you are responsible for that, you will have to pay for a replacement pair. The costs of this are based on the replacement value and based on experience, amount to EUR 150.00 and EUR 400.00 plus the rental costs.
In the event that your rental does not already contain all-weather tyres and you want to have these tyres, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance. If you need them at shorter notice, please call the Reservations team.

I am going skiing, do you offer snow chains?
Yes, if the rental location you are hiring from is in an area where it is illegal to drive without Snow Chains or all-weather tyres at certain times of year, the vehicle will automatically be supplied with snow chains and the fee will be included in your rental fee. You can ask not to have these but we recommend that you take either snow chains or all-weather tyres at these locations.
Snow chains are also available in some other rental locations. The fee for snow chains depends on where you are renting but you can expect it to be between 72.00 EUR and 90.35 EUR a rental.
If any snow chain is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement pair. The costs of this are based on the replacement value and based on experience, rate between 69 EUR and 100 EUR plus rental costs.
We can not fit snow chains for you, and we can not arrange for them to be fitted.

International journeys outside Germany are permitted for certain countries but generally require prior approval by Avis.
If approved by Avis, a Cross Border Fee (CBF) is payable. This amounts to Euro 9.41 per day, and maximum Euro 43.92 per rental.

What countries am I allowed to take the vehicle to?

You are only allowed to use the vehicle in the following countries: Austria, Andorra, Belgium, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Spain, France, Finland, Liechtenstein, Great Britain, Hungary, Croatia, Italy, Ireland, Luxemburg, Monaco, Norway, Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, San Marino, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia.

Entries into Italy (I), Czech Republic (CZ), Croatia (HR), France (F), Hungary (H), Poland (PL), Slovakia (SK) and Slovenia (SLO) are not allowed for vehicles of car group F.
Porsche vehicles may be driven in Germany (D), Austria (A) and Switzerland (CH) only.
It is prohibited driving our vehicles into Albania (AL), Azerbaijan (AZ), Bulgaria (BG), Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIH), Belarus (BY), Cyprus (CY), Estonia (EST), Georgia (GE), Greece (GR), Iceland (IS), Kazakhstan (KZ), Kosovo (RKS), Latvia (LV), Lithuania (LT), Malta (M), Macedonia (MK), Moldavia (MD), Montenegro (MNE), Romania (RO), Russia (RUS), Serbia (SRB), Turkey (TR), Ukraine (UA) and any country outside continental Europe.
Nor is it permitted to use our vehicles on the Balearic Islands, Canaries, Corsica, Crete, Sardinia

Any infringement of or non-compliance with any of the above provisions shall entitle Avis to terminate the rental agreement without notice or to withdraw from the rental agreement. Claims for compensation by the renter are excluded in such a case. Avis's entitlement to compensation for any damage incurred as a result of the violation of any of the above provisions shall remain unaffected.

Can I buy a product to allow me to drive in other countries?

No, regrettably, we do not offer any products which enable you to drive in other countries.

Please note entries into France (F), Italy (I), Czech Republic (CZ), Croatia (HR), Hungary (H), Poland (PL), Slovakia (SK) and Slovenia (SLO) are not allowed for vehicles of car group F.
