Avis Car Rental at Dunedin International Airport

Dunedin is the second-largest city in New Zealand's South Island, and a major gateway for people who want to experience the attractions of this spectacular area. Dunedin International Airport, also known as Dunedin Airport or Momona Airport, services the city of Dunedin and the Otago and Southland regions. Visitors to the airport can hire cars and other vehicles from the centrally located Avis New Zealand office.

Avis location at Dunedin Airport

The Avis counter at Dunedin Airport is easy to find, with all of the rental car counters located outside of the main entrance and to the left of the building. The Avis office is open during flight arrivals and departures, and the rental car park is well signposted and just a short walk from the office area. Dunedin Airport is fairly small and easy to navigate by global standards, with all of the car rental offices located in one area close to the pick-up and drop-off area.

Dunedin Airport information

Dunedin Airport is located 28 km southwest of the Dunedin CBD, close to the village of Momona. It's the largest of two international airports in the Otago region, the other one being the Queenstown International Airport. The airport features one runway, a single terminal building, five gates, two airbridges, and a range of custom facilities and amenities.

Dunedin Airport is the sixth-busiest airport in New Zealand in terms of passenger numbers, thanks in part to the geographical isolation of Dunedin city. Along with regular flights to Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, Dunedin Airport also has regular flights to the Australian city of Brisbane.

Things to see and do around Dunedin Airport

Dunedin Airport is located a fair distance from the CBD at 28 km. If you have long enough, there are lots of natural attractions to see around the local area, including Waipori Falls, Brighton, and Taieri Beach and Mouth. If you want to check out Dunedin city, it's a relatively quick drive into the CBD, with traffic fairly good most of the time. Larnach Castle and Olveston House are both worth visiting, as is the Otago Museum and Toitu Otago Settlers Museum.

Dunedin has a lot of great cafes and restaurants to choose from, with multiple bars and pubs also dotted in and around the city centre. Speight’s Brewery is a great place to wet your whistle and enjoy stories about the history of brewing in the Otago region.

If you have a little longer to experience this great part of the world, a visit to Otago Peninsula is a must. Other nearby attractions include Tunnel Beach track, Penguin Place, and the Taieri Gorge Railway. If you're planning to travel west, Queenstown and Milford Sound offer some of the most breathtaking scenery in the entire world.

The Z-Green Island service station is about 5 km closer to the city, located at 185 Main S Road, Green Island.

Once you're in the city itself, you can choose between Challenge Fitzroy on South Road at Caversham, the BP in South Dunedin, or the Z-Valley service station at Kaikorai. Driving between cities in New Zealand can involve long distances, so make sure you top up the tank before you head off.
