Please note that an off-airport Avis location cannot pick you up at an airport that has a Avis location. In this case, either you must rent your car at the airport location, or provide your own transportation to the off-airport location where you prefer to rent

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is Mandatory (included in the rates).
Customer is liable to an amount ranging from ZAR 16,700.00 to ZAR 66,000.00 depending on car group rented.
Note: No coverage is available for loss or damage from civil unrest, or due to any breach of terms and conditions stated on rental agreement. A fee of ZAR 415.00 will be charged, over and above the damage repair cost or applicable excess, as an accident handling administration fee. In the event of a traffic fine, a fee of ZAR 325.00 will be charged, over and above the traffic fine.
Theft Protection (TP) is Mandatory (included in the rates).
Customer is liable to an amount ranging from ZAR 16,700.00 to ZAR 66,000.00 depending on car group rented.
Windscreen Tire Damage Waiver (WTDW) is optionalThis product is available at the point of rental check-out. This cover includes all the glass and tyres including hubcaps, metal rims and alloy mags on the vehicle. Car groups A,B,C,D,E,P ZAR 77.25 per day (incl tax), Car groups F - O ZAR 87.25 per day (incl tax). Loss of tyres, rims or hubcaps are not covered under WTTDW but will fall under Theft Loss Waiver. No liability charges apply when WTTDW is taken. In addition, in the event of Third Party Damage, the customer's liability will be zero. However, if this is declined the maximum liability amount for tyres and glass will be ZAR 15000.00 and for Third Party Damage is ZAR 15000.00.
Note: If you require additional insurance coverage you may purchase locally to reduce/remove the insurance excess. Just ask at the Avis rental desk when you collect your car.

Credit Card Policies
Avis accepts Avis Charge Cards, American Express, Diners Club, Mastercard, Visa.
Car Groups F, G, H, I, J, K, L, N and O:
All customers (domestic and inbound), renting a Groups F, G, H, I, J, K, L, N and O , must present an additional Credit Card at check out. This second card must be a Credit Card. Preferred renters are not exempt from this rule. If a second credit card cannot be presented, the rental cannot take place.
Additional Charge Card Hold: The card must display a Mastercard or Visa logo. The numbers must be raised on the card with the words Credit Card reflected on the back or front of the card. The estimated authorisation amount will be held on the account for the duration of the rental and charged on termination. The applicable charge card hold will vary per customer and is based on the estimated rental time and mileage (fuel, average mileage per day time rental days, insurance, one-way, plus any miscellaneous charges and fees).
Weekend rentals (Thursday anytime - Monday at 2359) will require an additional charge card hold / security deposit plus the standard additional charge card hold / security deposit . Drivers License
At the time of rentals, the driver must present a valid drivers license in the drivers name from their country of residence. Customers presenting a drivers license in a non-Roman alphabet must also present an International Driving Permit (IDP) to serve as a translation in addition to their valid drivers license..

Public liability insurance is in accordance with the insurance laws of the country. Customer may inquire at the time of rental for additional information of the benefits, conditions and acceptance.

I have small children, do you offer child seats?
Yes, we offer baby, infant, child and boostersseats. A baby seat is typically suitable for a child from birth to 12 months old and weighing no more than 13 kilos. An infant seat is typically suitable for a child aged 9 months to 4 years old and weighing between 9 and 18 kilos. A child seat is typically suitable for a child aged 4 to 11 years old and weighing between 15 and 36 kilos. A booster seat is typically suitable for a child aged 8 to 11 years old and weighing between 20 and 45 kilos.
In some rental locations, we may arrange for a third party to fit the seat for you. But remember, it is always your responsibility to check the seat is fitted correctly before you drive away.

How much are your child seats?
The fee for renting a seat will depend on the kind of seat and on where you’re renting but you can expect it to cost between 5 EUR and 12 EUR a day. If you rent the vehicle for more than 7 days, you’ll only be charged for a maximum of 7 days and get to use the seat for the duration of your rental, up to 30 days.
If the seat is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.
I am not familiar with the area; can I rent a GPS (satellite navigation system)?
Yes, the fee for renting a GPS will depend on the renting location - please see our tariff conditions.If the GPS is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.
Please note: In some countries, it is against the law to use a GPS that tells you where speed cameras are. It is illegal in France. If you rent a GPS from us, it won't give you speed camera information.
Do you offer an audio tour guide service on your GPS?
No, unfortunately we do not offer an audio tour guide service at this time.
I want to be able to access the internet anywhere I go, do you offer a solution?
Yes, we offer Mobile Wi-Fi devices. We provide this service on behalf of a third party so you will need to read and agree to separate terms and conditions with them. We'll give you these terms and conditions at the rental location.
Please note: In many countries, including France, it is illegal to drive while using a handheld mobile phone, tablet or other communications device. It is your responsibility to drive safely and according to the laws of the country you're driving in.
How much does Mobile Wi-Fi cost?
The fee for hiring mobile Wi-Fi will depend on where you are renting but you can expect it to be 10 EUR a day.
If the mobile Wi-Fi device is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement. This is likely to cost around 123 EUR on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.
If the sim card or any mobile Wi-Fi accessories are damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement. This is likely to cost from 5 EUR to 15 EUR on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.
I am intending to drive along toll roads; do you offer a device to make this quicker and easier for me?
No, unfortunately we do not offer any electronic toll charging devices at this time.
Winter equipment to rent
I am concerned about the road conditions, do you offer all-weather tyres?
Yes, if the rental location you’re hiring from is in an area where it is illegal to drive without all-weather tyres at certain times of year, the vehicle will automatically be supplied with them and the fee will be included in your rental fee or contract.
You can also opt to book a vehicle equipped with all-weather tyres, and the fee will be included in your rental fee or contract.

I am going skiing, do you offer snow chains?
Yes. In most French mountainous municipalities (Alps, Corsica, Central mountain, Jura Mountains, Pyrenees, Vosges Mountains), it is mandatory in winter, by virtue of the Mountain law, to have snow chains in the boot of the vehicle, or to drive a vehicle fitted with winter tires. If your rental location is in a department where the Mountain law applies, the vehicle will be automatically equipped with it, and the price of your rental will automatically be increased with the cost of the corresponding option. If you decide not to subscribe to such option, and upon return of the vehicle we find that the snow chains have been used, you will be charged the corresponding price.
You can also opt to book a category of vehicle fitted with winter tires.
Snow chains may also be available in some other rental locations, please check with the rental location. The price of snow chains appears in our Tariff conditions.. If any snow chain is damaged, lost or stolen, you’ll have to pay for a replacement pair. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.
We can not fit snow chains for you, and we can not arrange for them to be fitted.

I have brought my own skis with me, do you rent ski racks?
Yes, some rental locations offer ski racks. You can expect to pay 8 EUR a day to rent a Ski Rack from us. If you rent the vehicle for more than 7 days, you will only be charged for a maximum of 7 days and get to use the ski rack for the duration of your rental, up to 30 days.
Ski racks can not be fitted to all our vehicles, so you may need to upgrade if you need one. This may increase the price of the vehicle and any excess you have to pay.
If the ski rack is damaged, lost or stolen, you will have to pay for a replacement. This is likely to cost 50 EUR on top of the hire fee. If you can show the damage or loss was not in any way your fault or due to your negligence, we will refund this cost to you.
Please give us at least 24 hours notice if you want to hire a ski rack.

Travel Into Other Countries
What countries am I allowed to take the vehicle to?
You are covered by third party liability insurance only when you use the vehicle in the country listed on the insurance green card.
Your additional coverages only apply when you use the vehicle in the following countries: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Metropolitan France, Monaco, Northern Ireland, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain (continental), Sweden, Switzerland (exception for vans), United Kingdom.
Can I buy a product to allow me to drive in other countries?
No, regrettably, we do not offer any products which enable you to drive in other countries.
Location Exceptions
Rates including unlimited mileages are not applicable to South African residents. To qualify for unlimited mileage rates, renters must produce an international passport and return airline ticket to their country of origin, South African renters can obtain quotes on www.avis.co.za.
Travel Into Other Countries
No cross-border rentals are allowed from South Africa to Malawi, Angola or Zambia, even if returning to South Africa.
One-way cross border rentals into Zimbabwe and Mozambique are not permitted. Cross border rentals from South Africa into Mozambique and Zimbabwe are only permitted on condition that the rentals return to South Africa and authorization is optained from the Operations Executive.
Renters wishing to enter Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland, Lesotho must be in possession of a letter of authority obtainable from an Avis location at time of rental. If this is not obtained, the customer will be refused entry. An additional ZAR 2250.00 (incl tax) will be charged for cross border rentals (excluding Swaziland and Lesotho).
Cross border fee for Eswatini and Lesotho: ZAR 800.00 (incl tax).
Cross border to Namibia is permitted at an additional cost of NAD 227.00 road tax fee (to be paid at the Namibian border), if driving a non-Namibian vehicle.
A road tax fee of ZAR 50.00 will be charged at Swaziland's border (to be paid to Swaziland authorities) for all cars with a foreign licence plate.
